PROGRAM: Jenny Rohrs, associate board member from Sew4Service, will join us to talk about her organization. Sew4Service is a service-minded community dedicated to creating positive change by enriching lives and protecting the environment through the practice and preservation of textile arts.


We will also have a discussion focusing on planning for the disposition of your sewing equipment and fabric stash as part of your estate planning.

TIME: Meeting at 11:00am. The room is open to us at 10am

LUNCH: Pot luck - each member will bring a dish to share.

PROGRAM: **All day open sew. Bring your sewing machine and projects.

**We will also have a discussion on how to deal with troubled quilts. You know, the ones with wonky borders, that don't lay flat or are not square. Share your stories of what you needed to do to get them quilted.

**We will also share ideas on how to quilt different quilt blocks.

**Sue Carlisle will demonstrate how to do the pearl edge binding.

NOTE - The meeting room at this shop is a large space with plenty of tables. There is a kitchen (no stove) with a microwave and fridge. They supply paper products and utensils.

The shop is open from 10am to 4pm. The room for us will be open at 10am. Come early and shop.

A NOTE FROM THE SHOP -

It has come to our attention that our Dot Spot neighbor’s clients are having difficulty with the current parking situation. If at all possible, we are asking that you leave the first 4-5 parking spots open and park to north side of the parking lot (closer to Rt. 303). You are more than welcome to unload near the ramp and then move your vehicle.

PROGRAM: We have access to a longarm and will cover a variety of topics. We ask that members share there experiences and expertise on these topics:

** loading quilts and keeping them straight

** how to handle short backings and battings

** sewing binding onto the quilts on the longarm

** what is used for clamping the sides of the quilt

** how to center wide backings

** how to deal with backings that are not large enough

PROGRAM: Feathers and Fillers. Carolyn Mann will moderate a group discussion on various ways to quilt feathers and fillers. We will practice by drawing the designs and demonstrate them on a dry erase board. Bring a sketch book to practice on your own.

​PROGRAM: Bindings and Facings.

Mary Zeitz will do a presentation on the various ways to bind your quilts. She'll cover bias binding, 2 color binding, bindings with piping or flanges, how to bind each side of a quilt with a different fabric, how to miter the corners. She'll show how to attach the binding for hand finishing or stitching by machine.

Sue Carlisle will discuss how to face a quilt which is perfect for wall hangings.

​SHORT TOPIC SEGMENT: How to piece backings, specifically how to create a wider piece of fabric from a 44" wide fabric with one diagonal seam.

PROGRAM: We’ll be hosting a “What Should I Quilt?” session! Bring your unquilted tops—large or small—and share them with the group. Members will offer suggestions on quilting motifs, thread choices, layout ideas, and quilting styles. Whether you’re looking for modern lines, traditional feathers, or something unexpected, you’ll leave with plenty of inspiration.
