Meeting Minutes – February 2007
Submitted by Debbie Arden

1)         Prior to our meeting, we enjoyed all the beautiful quilts being shown at the Farmpark Quilt Show in Kirtland.  Some of
the quilts were pieced and quilted by our members and many were customer quilts quilted by our members.  OLAQ was a huge
part of the quilt show.  Congratulations to all of you who won ribbons and those who made it possible for their customers to win

Our meeting was held at Nardis.  The room is really a nice size to hold all of us.  Thank you Carol Rickard for all your work
planning our lunch and setting up the meeting room.

2)         The Raffle Quilt is complete!!!!!!! And it is a beauty. With questions from the members, Sue Palumbo, who quilted the
raffle quilt, explained her design and quilting techniques.  Thank you Sue for a great quilting job.  Thank you to all the rest who
were involved in the creation of this quilt.  (Sue also shared she spritzed baking soda mixed with a quart of water on the blue
marker areas to remove them).  There will be a quilt appraiser coming to Farmpark next week and Linda Miller is taking the
raffle quilt for appraisal. We will then know how much to insure the quilt. It will be $1 per $100 of value.

3)         Raffle Tickets.  Sarah reported 1944 raffle tickets out for sale, many of those have been sold.  We decided to print
2000 more for $90.

4)         Insurance policy.  For $350 we purchased yearly liability insurance with $4 million coverage for meetings and events
we attend.

5)         Fund Raising.  The Sewing Expo March 29, 30 and 31 in Cleveland at the IX Center – 8000 attendees are expected.
Mary is confirming the booth size is 6x10. Sarah needs a few more volunteers to work in the booth. She is also looking for a
container for ticket stubs for the drawing.  There was some discussion about selling quilts in our booth.  The seller would
decide the price of her quilt; OLAQ would get 10% of the sale.  Since there were only 3 quilts and the booth size isn’t that
large, we decided against it.  It was also mentioned there would be a vendor license man there checking for tax exempt
numbers if anyone was selling.

OLAQ Banner Quilt.  Mary and Lynne pieced a banner for our club. Linda Bennett is quilting it.  Patty Hughes donated wool
batting for the project.  It may be used at the Sewing Expo.  Thank you Mary, Lynne, and Linda.  It is cool.

Mary also made up a QwM catalog in a  notebook, ticket flyer, flyer for our QwM event, and dinner banquet tickets.  Except for
the catalog, she had them all in stand-up frames. They looked very professional.  Thank you Mary.

Burton Quilt Show.  May 19 and 20. This is our OLAQ meeting day.  We can sell raffle tickets at this show. Linda Bennett
volunteered to sell tickets on Saturday in the AM. Carol Rickard will help on Sunday.

Akron AEROS Baseball Game.  Need volunteers to work the concession.  Dates are April 6 and May 17.  April 6 (Good Friday)
is Fireworks Friday Night. Need several there at 4:00pm for training.  Need 17 – 20 workers.  Gates open at 6:00pm.  Game
starts at 7:00pm.  May 17, Thursday is Education Day.  Concession at 8:00am and game starts at 10:00am.  Need 10 – 12
workers.  The concessions face the field.  The Aeros field is located in downtown Akron.

There are two more
NEORQC meetings where we can sell raffle tickets.

Cookie Dough.  We sold 74 tubs of cookie dough and made $367.50.  Thank you Lynne for handling this.

OLAQ Garage Sale.  May 5 and 6 at Lynne’s garage, 5442 Grace Drive, Mentor.  The next couple of meetings we can still
bring sale items.  Thanks Lynne for offering your garage for the sale.

6)         Quilting with Machines.  Anna will be giving monthly updates on QwM.

We have reserved a block of 30 rooms at the Holiday Inn Express  which is very close to the host hotel.

Challenge Quilts.  Mary will have labels for the challenge quilts at the March meeting.

Vicki Anderson, Publisher and Editor of
Unlimited Possibilities will be at QwM the entire event. She will display her “Have a
Heart” quilt competition winners. We will probably take them down every night for safety reasons.

How do we feel about leaving our challenge quilts hanging over night.  Connie Rice suggested she didn’t want to be night
watchman because she was getting too old for that.

Ten thousand flyers have been printed.

Diane Wantz said all volunteer positions have been filled until we think of something else that might need done.

Jodi Robinson reported there will be free demos going on all the time, 10/day.

Kathy McCarty and Pat Waldron are thinking about a QwM banner for the front of Das Dutch Village Inn.

Anna reported on vendors for the event; we are full.  They will be located in the banquet hall, outside the banquet hall and on
the second floor.

Anna is creating an event booklet that shows what, where, had ads, etc.

Pat Waldron reported it is better for OLAQ members to register for classes with a check because credit card use costs us
money in PayPal fees.

Mary is going to add to the QwM Registration Form, “where did you hear about us.”

Linda Bennett has posted the QwM event on the internet to such sites as LA Chat, Checkers, and MQP.  She is also going to
post it on the Longarm List owned by Quiltropolis.  This one costs $10.00/day.  She is posting it once this month and next.  It is
also on APQS, Gammill and Nolting.

Committee Reports
Treasury – Lynne Gray – see treasury page
Fund Raising – Sarah Bistline – reported above.
Membership – Diane Wantz – expecting Sue Murphy to join OLAQ. That will be 40 members.
Program – Jackie Gritzinger –  nothing to report
Public Relations – Linda Bennett  -- Ohio Quilt Show Showtime Event is a book showing upcoming events.  They sent us an
invitation to advertise in their book.  Decided we didn’t want to mostly due to the cost.

Fat Quarter Drawing winner was Ellie Monroe. Congratulations Ellie.

Vicki Anderson of Unlimited Possibilities met with Shirley Stutz last week.  She gave Shirley 6 current issues of the Unlimited
Possibilities magazines to be given away at our meeting to those who have not subscribed to the publication. The winners
were:  Linda Bennett, Sarah Bistline, Nancy Gano, Nora Brandt, Janet Joehlin, and Diane Wantz.  I bet she will have some new
subscribers because the magazine is fantastic.  Congratulations to all.
